Winnipeg Looks To Bounce Back
In part II of a home-and-home, the Winnipeg Jets (4-6-0) will fly to DC to take on the Washington Capitals (6-2-1) Thursday at 7 PM ET. After losing the first game at home 3-2, the Jets will look to return the favor on the road and even the season series. Thursday’s game will feature the six-time Rocket Richard Trophy winner, Alex Ovechkin, against last year’s second overall draft pick, 18-year-old Patrik Laine. Laine (six goals, two assists) is tied for third in the league in goals. Meanwhile, Ovechkin (four goals, two assists) will look to get back on the scoresheet after being held to a single assist over the last three games.
The Jets, suffering from a slew of injuries to key players, have continued to be a mediocre team through the first 10 games of the season at both ends of the ice, ranking 22nd in team offense and 15th in save percentage. Meanwhile, the Capitals’ defensive corps and 2015-16 Vezina winner, Braden Holtby, have paced the team’s stingy defense, which ranks second in the league with 2 goals against per game.
Regardless of the outcome, this matchup is sure to treat hockey fans to some electric offensive play from two gifted wingers in Ovechkin and Laine.
