NHL Original Six Matchup
After winning their last three games, the streaking Toronto Maple Leafs (21-13-8 SU, 27-15 ATS) will look to extend their hot streak against a Rangers squad that has lost three straight. Sitting sixth in the Eastern Conference, Toronto’s offense has been on fire, scoring four or more goals in six of their last seven games. The Leafs currently sit fifth in the NHL in goals for per game with 3.12; that success is largely due to the emergence of the 19-year-old Auston Matthews. The first overall pick from 2016 has not disappointed through the first half of this campaign, as he’s put up 22 goals and 16 assists through 42 games.
New York Rangers (28-16-1), meanwhile, are trending in the opposite direction of the Leafs. They’ve given up a total of 20 goals over their past four games and have slid to seventh in the East. Starting goaltender Henrik Lundqvist has had a sub-par season thus far compared to his career stats, posting a 2.89 goals against average and a .902 save percentage (compared to a 2.31, .920 career mark). The Rangers will attempt to slow the Leafs’ surging offense and get back on track Thursday (7:30 PM ET on TSN 4) in this battle of Original Six foes.
